Payam Taghadossi was born in Bregenz in 1989 and received his first cello lessons at the age of four with Monika Scherbaum and Sarolta Bobok. From 2002 to 2006 he was a pupil at the State Conservatory Feldkirch with Imke Frank and Martin Merker. From 2006 till 2011 Payam was a student at the Student Zurich Academy of Arts (ZHdK) with Prof. Thomas Grossenbacher and his assistant Christian Proske. Since 2012, he attends the University of Music Basel where he studies for a Master's degree with Rafael Rosenfeld.
Payam Taghadossi has won numerous competitions e.g. First Prizes at the regional and state-wide competition Prima La Musica and appeared as a soloist with orchestras like Musikfreunde Bregenz, Orchestra of the State Conservatory Vorarlberg, Budweis Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra Viatores etc. He won First Prize and Special Prize at the music competition held by the Fajr Music Festival in 2008 in Teheran (Iran) and Second Prize at the international Karl Davidov Cello Competition in Kuldiga (Latvia) in 2008. Payam attended master classes with David Geringas, Ivan Monighetti, Frans Helmerson, Wolfgang Boettcher, Gerhard Mantel, Reinhard Latzko, Valter Despalj, Wenn-Sinn Yang, Hans Jorgen Jensen and consulted with Arbo Valdma for piano chamber music. In October 2008 he was selected as a prize-winner and foundationer of the P.E. Förderkreis in Mannheim. As member of the Austrian-Slovak Philharmonic and the Symphony Orchestra Vorarlberg he gave concerts in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein in 2009. A bursary of the Meadowmount School of Music N. Y. in summer 2009 enabled his participation in a seven-week master class in N.Y.
In March 2010 the Richard Wagner Association bestowed a scholarship on him, in April he made his debut at the Tonhalle Zürich. The young cellist was trainee at the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich in 2011/12 being accepted as a full member after a successful audition in April 2012. Payam also performed as an orchestra musician with the Zurich Festival Orchestra and the Bron Chamber Orchestra, as a soloist and chamber musician he could be heard in Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Italy, Spain, France, the US, Estonia, Poland and in Iran. Currently he plays an instrument by Lorenzo Ventapane from 1820.
