Jonathan Mesonero

Jonathan Mesonero was born in Irun (Spain) in 1988 and began studying the violin at the age of eight at the Conservatory of Music in Irún. At the age of eleven he continued formal violin studies at the above -mentioned Conservatory with Raffaela Acella. In 2010, Jonathan Mesonero completed his Bachelor of Music Degree at the Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country ‘Musikene’ with Honours where he studied with Keiko Wataya. Since 2011 he is studying at the University of Arts in Berlin with Prof. Latica Honda-Rosenberg thanks to the Diputación Foral de Gipuzkoa and Humboldt Stiftung (Germany) scholarships.

In 2000, he was 1st prize-winner of the “City of Irun " Young Musician´s Competition  (category up to 12 years of age) and three years later he was finalist in the same competition (category up to 16 years of age).  At the age of 15, he took part in the First Violin Competition of Guipuzcoa where he won first prize.

Since 2001 he has participated in various international summer courses and master classes in Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Portugal where he studied with Uwe Martin Heiberg, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Keiko Wataya, Lothar Strauss, Heime Müller, Krysztof Wegryzn, Yayoi Toda, Detlef Hahn, Alexandre Brussilovsky,

Some of his most outstanding performances have been as a soloist of Beethoven´s Triple Concerto for violin, cello and piano in C major, Bach´s Violin Concerto in A minor, Vivaldi´s ‘The Spring’ and Concerto for two Violins in A minor.

As a chamber musician, he was leader of the Medea Quintet with whom he won the prize “Mention of Honor” at the ‘Acordes Caja Madrid 2008 Competition’. He has also taken part in numerous international music festivals such as ‘Q   uincena Musica’ in San Sebastian (Spain), ‘Musika-Música’ in Bilbao, as well as ‘Crescendo’,   ‘DAAD Musikstipendiatentreffen’ and ‘Konzert der Nationen’ in Berlin.

Presently, he collaborates with different professional orchestras such as the Orquesta Sinfonica de Euskadi (Basque National Symphony Orchestra) and the Luis Mariano Opera orchestra.  He is also a member of the Musikene Orchestra with whom he has recorded 3 CDs.  In 2011, he performed with the Krater Ensemble in the contemporary music cycle during the International ‘Quincena Musical ' Music Festival.

He performs with a specially commissioned Italian violin made by Roberto Regazzi in 2009.
