Barbara Warchalewska was born in Poland, in 1995. She started playing the cello at the age of seven in the Henryk Wieniawski Music School in Poznan. She continued her education with Dr. Tomasz Lisiecki in the Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Music High School, where she has recieved her diploma with honours. Now, she is a student of Prof. Thomas Demenga at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel.
Barbara attended many master classes, working with renowned cellist such as Frans Helmerson, Jens Peter Maintz, Philippe Muller, Arto Noras, Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt, Hans Jorg Jensen, Andres Diaz and Desmond Hoebig. Furthermore, she received a scholarship from the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and took part in the academy's intensive music weeks and activities.
Barbara is a prize-winner and finalist of many national and international cello and chamber music competitions, including the “International Zarebski Competition in Warsaw” (1st prize in 2006, 2008, 2010), the “International Kazimierz Wilkomirski Competition” in Poznan (2nd prize and special prize for interpretation of an obligatory piece), the “International ProCello Competition” (1st place and special prize for artistic personality), the “National Competition in Budgoszcz” (1st place) and the “International Chamber Music Competition” in Warsaw (1st place). She was also a finalist of the “Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition”, Canada, where she has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. As Klosiewicz & Warchalewska Duo, she won the 2nd prize in the category chamber music at the “Enkor International Music Competition” 4th edition, together with Weronika Klosiewicz on the harpsichord.
Barbara has given concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, China, Georgia, Ukraine, Spain, Hungary and Canada. She is also a threehold scholarship holder of the Mayor of Poznan City, the Lyra Stiftung, the Rita Zimmerman Stiftung, the Ministy of Culture and Heritage, the Feliks Nowowiejski Foundation, the Pro Bono Foundation, the Polish Found of Children and many others.
