He also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and participates in the intensive music weeks held there.
Noah Lee caused a considerable sensation in 2012, when he won the 1st prize of the renowned “7th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians” in Montreux (Switzerland) at the age of just twelve, and became the first cellist from the United States ever to win this competition. In 2014, he received the 1st prize at the 10th International Cello Competition “Antonio Janigro” in Porec (Croatia), again becoming the first US cellist to win this prize.
Following this, Noah Lee made his European solo recital debut with the Zagreb Soloists in the Euphrasian Basilica in Porec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He also appeared in concert as a soloist with the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble 212, Lausanne Sinfonietta, the Russian State Orchestra and the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, as part of its “PSO Bravo” concert series.
The young cellist has been featured twice as a soloist on the renowned NPR radio programme “From the Top” on American radio. He has also performed in several other events hosted by the programme. He has also been broadcast on European radio, for example on Radio Télévision Suisse and TV Istra. He performed as a soloist at the Founder’s Forum Conference at Hearst Tower in New York City, where he also sat on the panel for a panel discussion.
Noah Lee has already received numerous prizes and awards. In 2016, he became a Davidson Fellow, an award given by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development for exceptional achievements, and which is “one of the ten biggest scholarships in the world”. In the same year, he was named “Junior Peace and Music Ambassador USA” by the Harmony for Peace Foundation. In this function, he represents the Harmony for Peace Foundation at various musical and cultural events, and promotes international cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. Additionally, the International Academy of Arts and Sciences awarded him the first prize at the “ENKOR International Music Competition” in 2016. He was also honoured as a “2017 YoungArts Finalist”, and participated in the “36th National YoungArts Week” in Miami, Florida. A full scholarship has enabled the young cellist to participate in the “Rencontres Musicales Internationales en Wallonie” in Wavre, Belgium.
Noah Lee is the founder and president of the “Back to BACH” project, an international initiative to encourage children to learn an instrument and develop a love of music. He is also principal cellist and a founding member of the Heartstrings Cello Ensembles, whose vision it is to spread their positivity, both locally and globally, through their concerts and performances.
