Harriet Krijgh

Harriet Krijgh was born in the Netherlands in June 1991. She received her first cello lessons at the age of five. In 2000 she was admitted into the preparatory young talent class of Lenian Benjamins at the Conservatory of Music in Utrecht. In 2004 Harriet moved to Vienna, where she continued her cello studies with Lilia Schulz-Bayrova and Jontscho Bayrov at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität.

During her years of study, Harriet obtained valuable additional impulses from private lessons and participated in master classes with Steven Isserlis, Dmitri Ferschtman, Clemens Hagen, and Frans Helmerson of the Kronberg Academy.

Between 2008 and 2010, Harriet received special recognition in several music competitions. She received a first prize and a separate laureate prize at the “Princess Christina Competition” in the Netherlands, a first prize and a CD recording at the Austrian national competition “Prima La Musica,” a first prize and the Nicole Janigro prize at the “International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro” in Croatia, and a first prize at the Fidelio Competition in Vienna.

Since December 2010 Harriet is the outstanding cellist of the German CD-label Capriccio. Her first CD “THE FRENCH ALBUM” with music for cello and piano by Franck, Debussy, Fauré, and Offenbach appeared in March 2012 and has received excellent reviews. In September 2012 a second CD will be released with the two Cello Concertos of Joseph Haydn - recorded with the Wiener Kammerphilharmonie conducted by Claudius Traunfellner. A CD featuring the two Cello Concertos of Saint-Saëns is scheduled for 2013.

In 2012 Harriet Krijgh makes her debuts in the Konzerthaus Wien, in the Musikverein Wien, and in the Haydn Hall at the Haydn Festspiele in Eisenstadt. Other performances have taken her to the Diabelli Summer Concerts in Mattsee, the St. Gallen Festival, the Hagen Open Festival, the Trigonale Festival in Carynthia, and the Schlosskonzerten Gleinstätten. In the Netherlands Harriet gave concerts in “de Doelen” Rotterdam, in Muziekcentrum Vredenburg Utrecht, and in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

In June 2012 Harriet will have her own festival at Burg Feistritz in Austria. The event marks the launch of the annual “Harriet & Friends” Chamber Music Festival, where she will play select works with musicians from around the world. Since 2009 Harriet is an active performing artist of the “Live Music Now Foundation”, founded by Yehudi Menuhin.

Harriet Krijgh plays on a violoncello built by Hendrik Jacobs in Amsterdam in 1690. It is given to her on loan by the Nationaal Muziekinstrumentenfonds in the Netherlands.
