Natalia Polukord

Natalia Polukord was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1987 and received her first violin lessons in 1994 at the M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts with Natalia Pociene before studying with Prof. Undine Jagelaite and Prof. Audrone Vainiunaite at the Lithuanian Music Academy later on. In 2008/09 Natalia studied as Erasmus foundationer with Prof. Peter Schuhmayer at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts where she subsequently entered the chamber music class of Prof. Johannes Meissl. From 2009 to 2011 she studied violin with Prof. Anton Sorokow at the Vienna Conservatory, since October 2012 she is a student in the violin class of Prof. Christian Altenburger and Prof. Johannes Meissl at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts. Further inspiration came from instruction by Viktor Tretjakov, Vadim Gluzman, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Evgenia Epstein (Aviv String Quartet), Ronald Baldini, Boris Belkin, Marianne Piketty, Shoshana Rudiakov, Anna Kandinsky, Jocelyne und Ingomar Rainer, Wolfgang Klos, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Volkhard Steude und Elmar Landerer (Wiener Philharmoniker) oder Alexander Zemtsov (London Philharmonic Orchestra).

Natalia obtained a bursary from the Lithuanian Music Academy in 2007 and was a foundationer of the ‚Tokyo Foundation’ at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts in 2010/11.

Natalia Polukord won numerous prizes and awards: Third Prize at the Competition for Young Violinists in Tallinn in 1997; prize-winner at the National B. Dvarionas Competition (2002 and 2006); First Prize at the National Competition for Chamber Music „Spring Sonata“ in 2004 in the category piano trio; Third Prize at the Competition for students of Lithuanian Music Academies on occasion of the Music Academy Vilnius´75th anniversary in 2008. Studying organ with Gediminas Kviklys from 2004 to 2009, she also made her mark as a winner of the National J. Naujalis Organ Competition in 2005 and received an award as youngest participant at the International M.K. Ciurlionis Competition for Piano and Organ in Vilnius thus being invited to perform two concerts in Austria.

Since 2009 Natalia is a member of the music platform „Live Music Now“ founded by Sir Yehudi Menuhin. She gathered orchestra experience at the Collegium Musicum in Pommersfelden (2007) and as a section leader of the second violins within the Baltic Youth Philharmonic (2008). Since 2009 she is a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra while entering the Vienna Symphonic as a substitute in 2011. Natalia Polukord plays a loan instrument fashioned by G. Gagliano.

She receives studentships from the Tokyo-Foundation and Dr. Robert und Lina Thyll-Dürr Foundation, Swizzerland.
