Alexander Warenberg was born in 1998 in Voorburg (the Netherlands), and began to play the cello at the age of five. While attending grammar school he studied under Professor Monique Bartels at the Sweelinck Academy for exceptionally gifted young musicians at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
The young cellist has gained important musical stimuli from masterclasses with Professor Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy and at the Académie Pablo Casals in Prades. He also receives a scholarship from the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, and participates in the intensive music weeks held there.
Alexander Warenberg has already participated successfully in major international competitions, for example receiving 1st prize at the international “Antonio Janigro” cello competition in Croatia. He also won the “Britten Cello Competition” in the Netherlands and the national competition for young musicians.
The young cellist is very active both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, and for many years was a member of Professor Coosje Wijzenbeek’s “Fancy Fiddlers” string ensemble. In October 2013, he performed at the opening concert of the “Antonio Janigro” Cello Festival in Croatia, where he performed Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Zagreb Soloists. He has performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam several times, including a performance together with Menahem Pressler in 2012, and has appeared on Dutch radio and television. He has also been invited to various music festivals, including Janine Jansen’s International Chamber Music Festival at the “Grachtenfestival” in Amsterdam, the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION Bad Ragaz in Switzerland and at the “Cello Biënnale” in Amsterdam.
