Han Bin Yoon

The young cellist Han Bin Yoon was born in South Korea in 1988. He studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles, and at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. His cello mentors include accomplished cellists such as Bernard Greenhouse, Frans Helmerson, Steven Isserlis, David Geringas, Anner Bylsma, Jens Peter Maintz, Eleonore Schoenfeld, Paul Katz and Ralph Kirshbaum. He also receives a scholarship from the International Music Academy in the Principality of Liechtenstein, and participates in the intensive music weeks held there.

Han Bin Yoon has won prizes at numerous competitions. In 2013 he won prizes including the 2nd prize at the “Young Concert Artists International Auditions” and the 3rd prize at the “Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition” in Hong Kong.

In 2013 he made his debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., when he was selected by the Korean Concert Society to perform Dvorák’s Cello Concerto under the baton of James Conlon. Since 2014 he has been artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, where he receives instruction from Gary Hoffman.

An enthusiastic chamber musician, Han Bin Yoon has already worked with renowned musicians such as Itzhak Perlman, Maria João Pires, Anthony Marwood, Donald Weilerstein, Peter Frankl and members of the Cleveland Quartet, the Juilliard String Quartet, the Orion String Quartet and the Tokyo String Quartet. He has also been invited to numerous festivals, including the La Jolla SummerFest, Music@Menlo, the Ravinia Festival, the Perlman Chamber Music Workshop, the Sarasota Music Festival, the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove, the Académie Musicale de Villecroze and the inaugural Piatigorsky International Cello Festival.
