Zuzanna Sosnowska

Zuzanna Sosnowska was born in Bialystok (Poland) in 1993, and began to play the cello at the age of seven. Up until 2012, she was a student at the Zenon Brzewski School of Music in Warsaw, where she studied with Professor Andrzej Orkisz. Since October 2012, she has been studying under Professor Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar.

Zuzanna Sosnowska has already participated in numerous masterclasses and has been tutored by professors such as David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Philippe Muller, Julius Berger, Jens Peter Maintz, László Fenyo, Gustav Rivinius, Arto Noras and Kazimierz Michalik. Since 2014 she has been receiving a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and participates in the intensive music weeks and other activities on offer there.

The young cellist has enjoyed success at national and international competitions. In 2008, for example, she was awarded a 1st prize at the International Julius Zarebski Music Competition in Lomianki/Warsaw. At the International Cello Competition in 2010 in Liezen (Austria), she won the 2nd prize. In the same year she was awarded the 3rd prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Calgary (Canada). In 2011 she won the 1st prize at the International Competition of Young Musicians “Petar Konjovic” in Belgrade. In October 2012 she won the 2nd prize and a special prize at the International Cello Competition “Antonio Janigro” in Porec (Croatia). Furthermore she won the “Talent Week” of the Paderewski Centre in Tarnow (Poland). In 2015 she won the 1st prize (ex aequo) as well as two special prizes at the “10th Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition” in Warsaw. In 2016, she was awarded a special prize at International Cello Competition “Antonio Janigro” in Zagreb.

Concert performances as a soloist and also as a member of the “Metamorphosen Berlin” ensemble, and the “Cello-Ensemble Weimar” have led her to Germany, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria and Switzerland. She has performed as a soloist for example with the Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra, the “Metamorphosen Berlin” Chamber Orchestra, the “Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim” and the Orchestra of the Podlasie Opera. She has also been invited to various festivals, including the MusicConnects festival in Switzerland, the Krzyzowa-Music in Polen and the “International Musikfest Goslar - Harz” in Germany.

From 2007 to 2012, Zuzanna Sosnowskareceived a scholarshipfrom the Polish foundation for gifted children. She also received a scholarship for the arts from the Polish Ministry of Culture, a scholarship from Mount Royal University (Calgary) and a German “Deutschlandstipendium” scholarship. Since 2013 she has received a scholarship from the YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Musik Now Society, and in 2015 she was awarded the Liszt Foundation’s Charlotte-Krupp scholarship. She currently also receives a scholarship from the “Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz”, which provides her with the loan of a Gagliano cello (circa 1790).
