The musical path of cellist Marie Spaemann, born in Vienna in 1988, began at an early age, and has not only taken her through concert performances and success in competitions, but has also been characterized by her fascination and curiosity for the diversity of music and creative work.
The first prize recipient of the international Johannes-Brahms-Competition and former scholar of the Seymour Obermeyer Foundation has performed as a soloist accompanied by a variety of orchestras including the North German Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kärntner Symphoniker, the International Danube Philharmonic Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Croatian Chamber Orchestra.
Marie Spaemann studied with Reinhard Latzko at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, as well as with Valter Dešpalj at the Academy of Music in Zagreb. She completed her studies with distinction in 2011, and was awarded the Rector’s Prize. She has since attended master classes with, amongst others, Eleonore Schoenfeld, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson and Jens Peter Maintz. In addition, she receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in the Principality of Liechtenstein, where she participates in the intensive music weeks.
Marie Spaemann is regularly invited to perform both as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles at international festivals, such as the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, the PODIUM Festival in Germany and Austria, the Saronic Chamber Music Festival in Greece, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in Croatia, the South Korean Classic Garden festival and the Konzerthaus International in New York. She is currently principal cellist with the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and a member of the “Ensemble Esperanza”, which is made up of scholarship holders from the International Music Academy in the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Her increasingly frequent occupation with productions and projects involving multiple art forms – reaching beyond classical music – has led to collaborations with the Vienna Volkstheater, the “Vonnuan” dance company, as well as performances together with actors such as Gabriele Schuchter, Beatrice Frey (Schauspielhaus Hannover), and Michael König (Vienna Burgtheater). Apart from recordings with soul/jazz-singer Lylit (Kedar Entertainment), Marie Spaemann embarked on her own singer/songwriter project “Mela” in the fall of 2013, and released her first CD at the end of 2014.
