Filip Fak was born in 1983 in Rijeka (Croatia). He received his first piano lessons in his hometown with Prof. Jasna Jankovic. After finishing high school, he pursued his piano studies at the Zagreb Music Academy in the class of Djordje Stanetti where he graduated in 2005. Later, he went on to study at the Schola Cantorum in Paris in the class of Eugen Indjic earning the Diplôme de Concert.
He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in many major Croatian cultural centers, in a dozen European countries, the U.S. and China. As an orchestra soloist, he made his debut in 2001 performing the Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor with the Orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka. After that, he guested with some of Croatia´s most renowned orchestras and ensembles (Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, HRT Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Cantus Ensemble, Orchestra of the Music Academy in Zagreb etc.) under the baton of renowned conductors such as Klaus Arp, Pavle Despalj, Alun Francis, Adriano Martinolli, Luca Pfaff, Mladen Tarbuk etc.
Besides performing with orchestras, Filip Fak has given a number of noteworthy recitals and chamber music performances in collaboration with distinguished soloists, taking part at events such as the HRT Master Cycle, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Music Biennale Zagreb, Osor Musical Evenings, Festival Opatija, Lubenice Musical Evenings etc. In recent years, he often appeared as a member of the Cantus Ensemble and with several other Croatian orchestras. As an accompanist, he participated at master classes of acclaimed artists (D. Vejzovic, A. Sober, T. Zuzak) as well as an associate in several theatrical productions of the Croatian National Theatre.
Filip garnered several notable awards including the Darko Lukic Award, City of Samobor Award, First and Special Prize at the Ivan Zajc Competition, Grand Prix Lions Club, EPTA special award, as well as several first prizes at Croatian national competitions for music students. He also earned the Rector's Award of the University of Zagreb for his extraordinary achievements and won scholarships from the international foundations Vladimir Spivakov (Moscow) and the Gold Country Piano Institute's (Nevada City, USA).
In addition to his career as a pianist, Filip Fak is also an active composer. He has so far primarily composed piano works which were received with great critical acclaim. Furthermore, he is a postgraduate student for electronic music in the class of Prof. Zlatko Tanodi at the Zagreb Music Academy. Since February 2009 Filip is employed at the Zagreb Music Academy as an assistant professor in the piano department and as an accompanist in the vocal division.
