Astrig Siranossian

The French-Armenian cellist Astrig Siranossian is a versatile talent. As a soloist and chamber musician she spans the entire spectrum from standard repertoire to contemporary music, with composers such as Jean-Luc Darbellay, Rudolf Kelterborn, Tigran Mansurian and Daniel Schnyder already having written works for her.

Born in Lyon in 1988, Astrig Siranossian won a place at the Conservatoire National de Lyon at the tender age of eight. There she studied with Patrick Gabard, and later with Yvan Chiffoleau at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon. Following this she moved to Switzerland and embarked upon the Master’s program at the Basel Musikhochschule with Ivan Monighetti, which she has just completed with the highest distinction.

Numerous artists such as Medea Abrahamian, Conradin Brotbeck, Anner Bylsma, Gary Hoffmann, Jens Peter Maintz, Truls Mørk, Roland Pidoux, Ferenc Rados, János Starker and Tibor Varga are past and present sources of significant inspiration. In addition, she receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in the Principality of Liechtenstein, where she participates in the intensive music weeks.

Astrig Siranossian’s path is also studded with competition success: the 2013 “International Penderecki Cello Competition” including two special prizes, the renowned French “Banque Populaire Award”, and together with pianist Andriy Dragan, the “Basel Duo Competition 2013”.

She is sought after by chamber musicians including Bertrand Chamayou, Jacques Di Donato, Yo-Yo Ma (premiere of Philippe Hersant’s cello octet in 2014), Adrian Oetiker, the brothers Bruno and Régis Pasquier, Roland Pidoux, Michel Taddei, Bruno Schneider and Daniel Schnyder. As a soloist she is invited to perform by such orchestras as Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lyon, the Philharmonisches Orchester Gießen, the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, the Zagreb Soloists and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.

Astrig Siranossian has appeared at several major festivals over the last few years (Annecy Festival, Festival Viva Cello, Festival La Roque d’Anthéron, Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, Kammermusikfestival Basel, Cully Festival, Festival de Menton and FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION), was recently profiled on TF1 French television, and gave live performances for Radio France and Bavarian Broadcasting (in a cello octet with Sol Gabetta).
