Born in Salzburg in 1995, the cellist Julia Hagen received her first cello lessons at the age of five, from Detlef Mielke at the Musikum Salzburg. From 2007 to 2011, she studied at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg with Enrico Bronzi, and then moved on to study at the University of Music and the Performing Arts Vienna, with Reinhard Latzko. From 2013 to 2015, she continued her studies there, in Heinrich Schiff’s class. Since autumn 2015, she has been studying with Professor Jens Peter Maintz at Berlin University of the Arts. Julia Hagen also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and regularly participates in the intensive music weeks and other activities on offer at the academy.
The 2017/2018 season will see her give her debut performances with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Paul McCreesh, and with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. She will also undertake an extended tour of Austria together with the pianist Annika Treutler, and will perform at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad music festival. Other chamber music projects are in planning, together with Stefan Vladar and Daniel Ottensamer. She will also perform at the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION in Bad Ragaz.
Julia Hagen plays a Francesco Ruggieri cello (Cremona, 1684), which has been loaned to her privately.
