José Miguel Borges

José Miguel da Silva Borges was born in Portugal in 2000. He began his piano studies at the age of six at the Centro de Estudos Musicais da Maia, where he was a student of Marta Oliveira. After that, he worked with Marian Pivka and was accepted in 2015 in the Conservatório de Música do Porto, where he studied with Teresa Xavier until 2018. In the same year he also went to the Talent Music School in Brescia, Italy, and attended classes with Philippe Raskin. September 2018 he started his studies in the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel in the class of Boyan Vodenitcharov. 

José attended masterclasses with great piano teachers, from all around the world, such as Paulo Oliveira, Vladimir Viardo, Yves Henry, Pavel Gililov, Philippe Raskin, Ivo Kahánek, Andrew Ball, Dmitri Alexeev, Filipe Pinto Ribeiro, Eldar Nebolsin, Yuri Bogdanov, Sylvia Hsiang-Tai CHU, Svetlana Eganian, Dmitri Bashkirov, Miguel Borges Coelho, Sofia Lourenço, Vicenzo Balzani, Vitally Samoshko, Jean-Claude Vanden Eyden, Mi-Joo Lee, Bernd Goethzke, Juan Lago and Krystian Tkaczewski. He’s also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, where he regularly takes part in the intensive weeks and activities of the Music Academy.

José won many piano competitions. Among others, he won 1st prizes in 2016 in the “Concurso Internacional de Música Cidade de Almada”, the “XI Concurso de Piano da Póvoa de Varzim”, the “Concurso Interno do Conservatório de Música do Porto”, the “Concurso Jovem.Com”, the “17º Concurso Internacional Cidade do Fundão” and was Semifinalist in the “XXX Concurso Internacional de Piano Cidade de Ferrol”. In 2017 José won 1st prizes in the “XII Concurso Internacional de Piano Ciudade de Huesca”, the “XII Concurso Nacional de Piano E. M. São Teotónio”, the “XI Concurso Internacional de Piano Paços Premium” and the “Bolsa BPI” (“Scholarship BPI), the 2nd prize in the “Concurso Internacional Santa Cecília”, two 3rd prizes in the “XX Concurso Internacional de Piano da Cidade de San Sebastian” and the “9º International Summer Piano Academy & Festival Anastasios Leimonis” as well as the Scholarship “Yamaha-Maria João Pires”. In 2018 José was the 1st prize winner of the “Concurso Interno do Conservatório de Música do Porto” and the “Tadini International Piano Music Competition”. He won the 2nd prize in the “Concurso Jovem.Com” and two 3rd prizes in the “XIII Concurso de Piano da Póvoa de Varzim” and the “International Music Festival Paris”.

José gave concerts and recitals in many places in Portugal and abroad, in cities like Porto, Maia, Braga, Póvoa de Varzim, Guimarães, Felgueiras, Gaia, Brescia, Lovere (Italy), Poros (Greece) and Brussels (Belgium).
