Mantas Sernius

Mantas Šernius was born in 1994 in Lithuania. In 2001, he began his piano studies at the music school in Druskininkai (Lithuania) under the tutelage of Natalia Sokolenko. At the age of fifteen, he moved to Kaunas where he studied with Birute Kumpikiene. After graduation, he continued his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Prof. Fali Pavri. He’s currently undertaking his doctoral studies under Ivari Ilja at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he previously studied for his Master’s in Chamber Music under Professor Marje Lohuaru.

The young pianist receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participates in the intensive music weeks held there. He has attended masterclasses held by renowned professors, such as Yefim Bronfman, Arie Vardi, Dmitri Bashkirov, Claudio Martinez-Mehner, Andrei Gavrilov, Dmitri Alexeev, Vladimir Viardo, Alexander Kobrin, Vladimir Tropp, Anna Malikova, Steven Osborne, Petras Geniušas, Mira Marchenko, Phillip Shovk, Artur Pizarro, Joan Havill, Cedric Tiberghien, Vera Nosina, Nina Seriogina and many others. 

Mantas is a laureate of several international piano and chamber music competitions including the “International Piano Competition Music Without Limits” (Lithuania, 2005) where he won the Grand Prix, the “International Piano Competition Kaunas Sonorum” (Lithuania, 2011) with the 2nd prize, the “European Music Competition Citta di Moncalieri“ (Italy, 2012) with the 1st prize, the “International Chamber Ensembles Competition” in Riga (Latvia, 2012), 1st prize and the “9th Estonian Piano Competition” (Estonia, 2019), also with the 1st prize. In 2021, he was semi finalist in the “28th Musical Competition” in Italy. In 2005 and 2013, he has received an award by the Prime Minister and President of Lithuania for his achievements at International Competitions.

In 2012, Mantas participated at the Piano Music Festival in Germany. He has performed in Portugal, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Croatia, Lithuania, Estonia and United Kingdom as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensemble.  In 2018, he performed with the EMTA orchestra under the baton of Arvo Volmer at the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn. 

He was supported by Roderick Ford Tuck Foundation for talented kids and Saulius Karosas Charity and Support foundation. In 2014, he was awarded by Else and Leonard Cross Scholarship and most recently, in 2017, he was awarded by prestigious Yamaha Music Foundation Europe Scholarship.
