Siyuan Wang

Siyuan Wang was born in 1982 and began playing the piano at the age of four. He went on to study at the Shanghai Conservatory from 1994 to 2007 with Professor Shiyu Zhou and Professor Hung-Kuan Chen. Since 2008 Siyuan Wang has been living in Germany and has studied with Professor Volker Banfield at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg”, and then with Professor Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Since Professor Kämmerling sadly passed away, he has been working with Professor Paul Badura-Skoda. He also receives a scholarship from the International Music Academy in the Principality of Liechtenstein, where he participates in the intensive music weeks.

Even as a young pianist, Siyuan Wang won several young musicians’ piano competitions. These include third prize at the “Shanghai-Osaka Youth Piano Competition” in 1998, and first prize at the “International Piano Competition for Young Musicians” in Enschede in 2001. He later went on to win first prize at the Shanghai Conservatory Piano Competition in 2006, and third prize at the “Palatino Modern Music Competition” in Shanghai 2007. Siyuan Wang has also been a semi-finalist in several competitions, such as the “Busoni Competition” and the “International Franz Liszt Piano Competition” in Weimar.

Throughout his studies, Siyuan Wang has given recitals in Germany, Austria, Italy, The Netherlands and China, in concert venues such as the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Liszt-Haus in Weimar, Schloss Laudon in Vienna, the Busoni Festival in Italy, the Muziekcentrum Enschede in The Netherlands and the Shanghai Grand Theatre.

Siyuan Wang also devotes some of his time to teaching, and enjoys giving chamber music performances together with string players and singers.
