Yucheng Shi

Shi Yucheng, born in 1992 in China, began to learn the violin when he was four years old and began to learn the viola at the age of twelve. In 2008, he got access to the Subsidiary High School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied with professor Liu Nian and professor Jensen Lam. He was admitted to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2011 and completed his master's degree with Professor Jensen Lam in 2016. Currently, he continues his musical education with postgraduate studies with Professor Thomas Riebl at the Mozarteum Salzburg. 

He attended the master classes of Nobuko Imai, Yuri Bashmet, Garth Knox and Antonio Tamestit. He was a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and took part in the intensive weeks and activities of the academy.

Shi won several awards in international competitions. In 2009, he won the 3rd prize in the “1st International ERNST Viola Competition” in Austria. In 2010, he attended the “Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival” and won the prize for the best new work. In 2011, he won the 2nd prize in the “18th International Johannes Brahms Competition” and the 2nd prize in the “Shanghai Conservatory of Music National Viola Invitational Tournament” in the youth group. In 2014, he won the 1st prize in the “Hongkong International Stringed Instrument Music” and in 2018, he won the 2nd prize at the “67th International ARD Music Competition”.
