Moritz Huemer

Moritz Huemer was born in Feldkirch (Austria) in 1999 and lives in Liechtenstein. He received his first cello lessons at the age of five from Josef Hofer at the Liechtenstein Music School. From 2015 to 2018 he was a young student in Rafael Rosenfeld's class at the Basel Music Academy and at the same time attended grammar school in Feldkirch, where he passed his Matura in summer 2018. Since autumn 2018 he has been studying with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar. 

He took part in various master classes, including with Jens Peter Maintz, David Geringas and Thomas Grossenbacher. He is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and regularly takes part in the intensive weeks there. 

Between 2008 and 2017 Moritz won several 1st prizes at the national level in both the Austrian “Prima la Musica” and the “Swiss Youth Music Competition” and was awarded the ESTA and EMCY special prizes. In spring 2009 he was presented with the “Podium Prize” from Hereditary Princess Sophie von und zu Liechtenstein “for the astonishingly virtuoso mastery of his instrument and the exploration of its tonal possibilities”. In March 2012 he was awarded a special prize for the special achievement at his age at the “European Lions Music Competition for Violoncello” in Lucerne. 

Moritz Huemer has performed several times as a soloist with an orchestra, including the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, the Collegium Musicum Ostschweiz from St. Gallen and the Liechtenstein-Werdenberg Orchestra. In addition to his solo appearances, he enjoys playing orchestral and chamber music in a wide variety of formations, such as the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, the Trio Millennium or the EMCY Young Hearts for Music Tour. He was also a “Young Festival Artist” at the Zwischenentöne Chamber Music Festival Engelberg in Switzerland, performed at the “VP Bank Classic Festival” - formerly the Next Generation Festival - in Bad Ragaz and is a member of the Ensemble Esperanza, which is made up of scholarship holders from the International Music Academy exists in Liechtenstein and was awarded an “Opus Klassik” in 2018.
