Dmytro Choni

Dmytro Choni was born in Kiev (Ukraine) in 1993, and received his first piano lessons from Galina Zaslavets at the age of four.  Later, he went on to study in Kiev with Nina Naiditch and Professor Yuri Kot. He is currently studying with Professor Milana Chernyavska at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The young pianist also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and regularly participates in the intensive music weeks and other activities held there. He has attended masterclasses held by renowned professors, such as Arie Vardi, Sergei Babayan, Pavel Gililov, Klaus Hellwig, Grigory Gruzman, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Yakov Kasman and Oxana Yablonskaya.

As a prize-winner at numerous prestigious competitions, Dmytro Choni has already made a name for himself on the international stage. He has been awarded prizes at competitions including the “International Alemdar Karamanov Piano Competition” in Crimea (1st prize, 2009), the “Concours International de Piano – Ville de Gagny” in France (1st prize and Grand Prix, 2013), the “International Piano Competition Tucumán” in Argentina (1st prize, 2016), the “San Marino Piano Competition” (2nd prize, 2016), the International “Stefano Marizza” Piano Competition in Italy (1st prize, 2016), the International Piano Competition “Tribute to Jurica Murai” in Croatia (1st prize, 2016), the “International Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition” in Italy (6th prize, 2017), the “International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz” in Ukraine (2nd prize, 2017), the international piano competition “Roma” in Italy (1st prize, 2017), the “International Piano Competition of the City of San Sebastián” in Spain (1st prize, 2017), and the “Suzhou International Piano Competition” in China (2nd prize, 2017). In Autumn 2017, Dmytro Choni was awarded the “Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize” at the Piano Academy Eppan. In February 2018, he was awarded the 1st prize at the “Los Angeles International Piano Competition”.

The young pianist has already given a considerable number of solo recitals and chamber music concerts, and performs regularly as a soloist with renowned orchestras, such as the Republic of San Marino Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Francesco Ommassini, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alain Paris, the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra under Volodymyr Sirenko and Vitaliy Protasov, the Tambov Philharmonic Orchestra under Mikhail Leontyev and the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra. Dmytro Choni has performed at the “Kissinger Sommer” in Germany, the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, at Harmonie Starego Miasta in Poland and at the International Festival Kyiv Summer Music Evenings in Ukraine. His performances at the Teatro Colón in Argentina and at the renowned “Kissinger KlavierOlymp” in Germany have made a lasting impression on his musical development.

Chamber music also forms an important part of Dmytro Choi’s musical activities. He has performed at chamber music festivals such as Colluvio in Austria and Zeist Music Days in the Netherlands, where he profited from musical input from renowned musicians such as Adrian Brendel, Marc Danel and members of the Jerusalem Quartet.
