Marin Maras

Marin Maras was born in 1990 in Dubrovnik where he started his musical education at the “Luka Sorkocevic School of Arts”. A highly gifted musician, he entered the violin class of Professor Leonid Sorokov at the Music Academy in Zagreb at the age of fifteen, completing his master’s degree in June 2011. Afterwards, Marin studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. The young violinist eagerly participates in masterclasses at home and abroad, amongst others with Professor Latica Honda-Rosenberg at the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein.

From an early age, Marin Maras has won numerous prizes at national and international competitions such as the 1st prize at the International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia, in May 2007, with the renowned Professor Zakhar Bron presiding over the panel. He is a winner of the national qualification for the Eurovision Competition of Young Musicians 2008, where he performed with the Croatian Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra, and participated in the Eurovision Competition in Vienna. In April 2012, Marin Maras won 1st prize at the “Stefanie Hohl” Competition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He won an award at the 2013 “Vaclav Huml International Violin Competition” in Zagreb (Croatia).

As a soloist, Marin has appeared on many occasions with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra since his first performance at the age of eleven. He has since performed as a soloist with the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra, the Zadar Chamber Orchestra, the Croatian Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra, the Zagreb Soloists, the Zagreb Philharmonic as well with the Ukrainian National Academy Symphony Orchestra. Marin Maras is also very active in the field of chamber music. He has already been invited to perform at the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION Bad Ragaz in Switzerland, and is a member of the ENSEMBLE ESPERANZA, which is made up of scholarship holders from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein. He also plays in the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra. From 2014 to 2017, he was also a member of the acclaimed Zagreb Quartet.
