Joaquín Torre

Born in Spain in 2000 within a musical family, Joaquín Torre started his violin studies at the age of four with the renowned pedagogue Sergio Castro. In 2014, he entered the prestigious Queen Sofia Music School in Madrid, studying with Professors Sergey Teslia and Marco Rizzi. Since 2018, he is under the mentorship of Professor Ilya Kaler at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Joaquín has received masterclasses from Ilya Kaler, Mihaela Martin, Marc Bouchkov, Schmuel Ashkenazy, Vadim Gluzman, Chaim Taub, Natalia Prischepenko, Dmitri Berlinsky, Hagai Shaham, Frederieke Saeijs and Mikhail Kopelman. He’s also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and regularly takes part in the intensive weeks and activities held there.

As winner of the “I Mundi Music Awards”, the “ISLIM Competition” and a prize recipient of the “Violins for Peace International Violin Competition”, Joaquín has been awarded the “Juventudes Musicales de Madrid Scholarship Competition” in 2014-2019, receiving these awards from Her Majesty Queen Sofía.

From an early age, he takes part in numerous concerts and festivals in Spain, England, United States, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Puerto Rico and Africa such as the Keshet Eilon Festival (Israel), the Bowdoin International Music Festival (USA), the Heifetz International Music Institute (USA) and at the Sion Academy (Switzerland).

In 2014, he made his debut as soloist with orchestra at the National Auditorium in Madrid, within the A+música’s concert series, playing Bach Concertos. He has been re-invited to this cycle every year since then. Special mention deserves his recital at the ArtDialog Festival in Switzerland under the auspices of Natalia Gutman and his tours as soloist with orchestra in Puerto Rico and in Africa.

Joaquín is a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester since 2017, touring throughout some of Europe’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls. He has served as a concertmaster of the Spanish Youth National Orchestra and the Madrid Youth Orchestra.

His love for chamber music has taken him to be a member of different chamber groups, such as the Schola and Tiempo BBDO string quartets and the Dvorak Trio, among others. His chamber music coaches include Phillip Setzer, Heime Müller, Si-Yan Darren Li, Daniel Phillips, and Kim Kashkashian.

Additional generous help and grants have been received from Club Mundi, Cleveland Institute of Music, Fundación Albéniz, Artistas, Intérpretes y Ejecutantes (AIE), Bowdoin International Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, Keshet Eilon, and the Comunidad de Madrid.

Currently Joaquín plays on a violin made by C.A. Testore (Milan, 1740) and a bow by J. M. Persoit (Paris, circa 1830).
