Miriam Helms Ålien

The young violinist Miriam Helms Ålien from Alta in Norway is seen as one of the most talented young musicians from her home country. She was born in 1991 and began to play the violin at the age of six. Since her debut as a soloist at the age of eight, she has performed in concert with most of the Norwegian orchestras, as well as orchestras from Denmark, Germany, Israel, Italy, Russia and the Czech Republic. She has also been a frequent guest on radio and television. As a passionate chamber musician, she is regularly invited to perform at festivals such as the Bergen International Festival, the “Kissinger Sommer”, “Chamber Music Connects the World” in Kronberg, and the Verbier Festival & Academy. In 2014 she was invited to perform at the “FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION” in Bad Ragaz. At home in Norway, she has participated in chamber music festivals in Oslo, Risør and Trondheim, playing together with many musicians, including the renowned Gidon Kremer, Steven Isserlis, András Schiff and Dora Schwarzberg.

Miriam Helms Ålien began her studies at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo. She then moved on to study at the “Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. Since October 2016, she has been studying with Ana Chumachenco as a young solo performer at the Kronberg Academy. She also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and participates in the intensive music weeks held there.

In 2012, the young violinist won the prestigious “Princess Astrid Music Prize”. In 2007, she had already won the Czech “Kocian Violin Competition”, where she also won the “Grand Prix”, the “EMCY Prize” and the “Bärenreiter Prize”.

Miriam Helms Ålien plays a 1780 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, a generous loan from a private collection.
