Maria Inês Pereira Castro

Maria Inês Pereira Castro was born in 1999. She is a Portuguese flutist and piccoloist. Inês started her musical studies at the age of ten at the Academia de Música José Atalaya, Fafe, Portugal, where she studied till the age of 17. She concluded her high school in music with the top mark alongside a sciences and technology high school. In the same year she moved to Switzerland to study a bachelor’s degree at the Zurich University of the Arts where she studies flute with Matthias Ziegler, piccolo with Haika Lübcke and orchestral excerpts with Sabine Poyé Morel.

During her studies, she has received masterclasses with Andrea Lieberknecht, Aldo Baerten, Berten D'Hollander, Gareth McLearnon, Gil Magalhães, José Daniel Castellon, Katharine Rawdon, Luís Meireles, Marcos Fregnani, Nuno Inácio, Rachel Brown, Raquel Lima, Sophia Mavrogenidou, Stephanie Wagner, Peter Lukas Graf, Vasco Gouveia, Vicent Lucas and piccolo masterclasses with Patricia Morris, Jerica Pavli and Nicola Mazzanti. She also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participates in the intensive music weeks held there.

During 2018 and 2019, Maria Inês was first flute of the Jugendsinfonieorchester Zürich, where she did tours in Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and England. In August 2019, she performed J. S. Bach Orchestral Suite as a soloist with the Musiktage Bodensee in Germany.   Inês is also a substitute musician at the Musikkollegium Winterthur and the Orchestre de La Suisse Romande (Geneva).
