Mon Fu Hsu

Mon-Fu Lee Hsu was born in 1999. He began his studies with the violin at the age of four with professor and pedagogue Sergio Castro. At the same time he started his piano studies and the art of singing. At the age of twelve, he was admitted into the class of professor Ana Chumachenco and Zohrab Tadevosyan in the prestigious school Reina Sofia in Madrid, being one of the youngest students to be accepted there. Since the academic year 2018-2019 he studies both with professor Mauricio Fuks and Arabella Steinbacher together with chairwoman professor Ana Chumachenco and assistant Zohrab Tadevosyan.

He has received many masterclasses from renown professors such as Mauricio Fuks, Eduard Grach, Shmuel Ashkenasy, Mark Gothoni, Eduard Tatevosian, Arabella Steinbacher, Christoph Poppen, Natalia Prishepenko, Nicolas Chumachenco, Miriam Fried and many more. He is also active participant in Kronberg Akademie masterclasses and attended masterclasses from Gunter Pichler, Weronika Hagen and Natalia Prishepenko. He receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participate regularly in the activities offered by the Academy.

In 2007 Mon-Fu was awarded the 2nd prize in the “Shangai competition for Young talents” in China. In 2011 he obtained the 1st Prize in the “Competition for Young artists from Madrid” in Spain. 

Internationally, he has given numerous recitals all over the world in countries such as Austria, Germany, Taiwan, China, France, Italy and Switzerland, while also performing as an active participant in Music festivals both in his natal country and abroad such as Fórum musikae, Katerina Gurska, Pau Casals Prades, Shanghai Conservatory Summer Camp, Oberen Sommermusik Nagoldtald, Biella Accademia Perossi Milano and Malta Utto Ugi Festival. He has been a member of the Young singers choir from Madrid since 2007 and performs in the most important halls of Madrid such as Teatro Real in the operas of Fausto, Carmen, the Sony hall or the National Hall. 

As a member of the Reina Sofia School, he was a member of trio Dvorak, Mendelssohn Quartet, la Pampa Quartet and the Stoneshield Quartet under the tutelage of Maestro Heime Muller. Currently he is a member of the Arriaga Santander banking group under the tutelage of Marta Gulyas. As a chamber musician, he has worked with both Heime Muller and Marta Gulyas. He is a member of Banco de España Quintet, with which he works and performs frequently.

He is now enjoying a scholarship aiding his studies, generously provided by the Madrid Townhall.
