Katharina Meldre

Katharina was born in Russia in 1999 and began playing the cello with Ekaterina Polivanova at the age of four at the E. Svetlanov Music School. She continued her musical education at the Moscow Conservatory with the professor and teacher Olga Galochkina. Since 2017, Katharina has been pursuing her Bachelor of Music as a full scholarship holder at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Ohio, USA. 

During her studies, Katharina was mentored by Annie Fullard, Mari Sato, Mark Kosower and Richard Weiss as a chamber musician and cellist and took part in master classes with Alexei Sarkissov, Peter Salaff and Danjulo Ishizaka. She received a scholarship from the  International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and took part in the academy's intensive music weeks and activities. 

Katharina participated in several competitions, including the XI. Competition “Open Europe” (1st prize, 2012), the “XIII International Television Competition The Nutcracker” (2012), the “III Moscow Competition for Young Violinists and Cellists” (1st prize, 2012) and the “VIII Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians” (semi-finalist diploma, 2014). 

In 2015, Katharina was invited by the pianist Natalia Rubinstein to the II. International Bach Festival BWV-2015. In October 2018, she took part in the chamber music project  „Mit Musik - Miteinander“  in Kronberg (Germany), which was organized by the Kronberg Academy. In addition to playing the cello, she writes transcriptions for cello and cello ensembles. 

She made recordings for radio (Radio Orpheus and WCLV Classical 104.9) and Russian television (Russia-K Channel). Her recital with pianist Alexey Kirillov was selected in 2016 by Radio Orpheus for the European Broadcast Union (format “Euroradio Representiert”). 

Katharina was a fellow of the New Names Foundation (2008, 2012), the Friends of Rudens Turku Foundation and the Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund (2018).
