Ivan Skanavi

Ivan Skanavi was born into a family of musicians in Moscow in 1996 and began playing the cello at the age of six. From 2003 to 2012, he was Tamara Alekseeva's student in the Children's Music School of the Academic Music College at the P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He then studied at the Academic Music College at the P. Tchaikowski Conservatory in Moscow with Prof. Alexey Seleznev. In 2017, he began his bachelor's degree with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Liszt School of Music Weimar. 

Ivan took master classes with David Geringas, Natalia Gutman, Claudio Bohorquez, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Xavier Phillips and Torleif Thedeen. He was also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and took part in the intensive weeks and activities of the academy. 

Ivan is the winner of the “5. Moscow Open Leopold Mozart Early Music Competition”, the “International Young Musician Competition” in Tallin, Estonia, the “1. International Knushevitsky Competition”, the “7. International Tchaikowsky Competition for Young Musicians” as well as the winner of the 1st prize of the “6. International Music Festival in Rodos”, Greece. 

Ivan played in many European countries as a chamber musician and soloist under conductors such as Anatoly Levin, Timo Handschuh, Alexander Skulski and Azim Karimov.
