Tareq Matar

Tareq Matar was born in Germany in 2004 and received his first violin lessons at a Berlin music school at the age of five. At the age of nine, he entered the music high school C.Ph.E. Bach and received lessons from Prof. Kittel as a young student at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. In the summer 2019, he switched to the violin class of Prof. Tomasz Tomaszewski at the Berlin University of the Arts. 

Tareq took part in international master classes with Prof. Picard, Prof. Wegrzyn, Prof. Munteanu and Prof. Turban, among others. He is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities there. 

In 2017 and 2022, Tareq won the 1st prize in the national competition "Jugend musiziert". He received the 1st prize at the “Märkische Musiktage” three times. In spring 2018, he won the special prize for the best interpretation of a work by J. S. Bach at the "International Anton Rubinstein Competition". In 2020, he received the 2nd prize at the "International Georg Philipp Telemann Violin Competition" in Poznan/Poland. In 2021, he was awarded the 1st prize and the Grand Prix at the "International Young Ludwig Competition" of the Berlin University of the Arts. In September 2022, he won the 1st prize at the "International Competition for Violin" in the Schöntal monastery. 

As a soloist, Tareq has performed twice with the Brandenburg State Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Zielona Goras. He has been giving concerts regularly as a member of the National Youth Orchestra and with his string quartet since 2020.
